The Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) of DKI Jakarta has been proposed to increase by 10.5%. If approved, the UMP will be close to Rp 5.9 million, marking a significant rise compared to the current minimum wage.
The proposal was put forward by KSPI President Said Iqbal in response to rising inflation and growing economic needs, as well as an effort to maintain citizens’ purchasing power amid the increasing cost of living. Regional governments across Indonesia are currently conducting simulations and discussions to ensure that this policy can be implemented effectively and fairly for both workers and employers.
However, while the proposal aims to improve workers’ welfare, many business owners are concerned that a substantial hike in the minimum wage may increase their operational burden. They hope that the wage determination process will take into account the resilience of various business sectors, especially during ongoing global economic uncertainty.
