Throughout May, many updates have come from the HR world both in Indonesia and globally. From warnings and bans issued by the Minister of P2MI to be cautious when accepting job offers, to Google Cloud’s efforts to support Indonesia’s economy through the creation of new jobs. Here is the complete summary:

Alert! These 3 Asian Countries Are High-Risk Destinations for Indonesian Migrant Worker Exploitation

Abdul Kadir Karding, Minister of Protection for Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI), urges the public to be cautious about job offers in three Asian countries—Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar—that do not have official cooperation agreements (MoUs) with Indonesia regarding labor placement. He identified these countries as the most extreme destinations due to many cases of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) facing exploitation, human trafficking, and even death.

A recent case involved Rizal Sampurna from Banyuwangi, who died in Cambodia after working through irregular channels. He entered the country by sea from Malaysia and was not registered in the government’s official system. Many PMIs like Rizal are recruited via social media, promised high salaries, but eventually trapped in illegal activities such as online fraud and forced labor.

Karding also revealed a new trend of sending PMIs with tourist visas through unofficial routes via Malaysia or Thailand. Therefore, he stressed the importance of not being tempted by unclear job offers. The government encourages prospective migrant workers to always use official channels to avoid the risks of human trafficking and violence.

Deputy Minister of Manpower Issues Strong Warning to HRD After Viral Job Fair 2025 Video

A job fair held in Bekasi in May 2025 drew significant attention and went viral after a video showed an HRD representative calling the event merely a formality for companies. The statement sparked controversy and public concern on social media.

Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer condemned the remark as irresponsible. He emphasized that job fairs are crucial opportunities for job seekers to find decent employment and urged strict sanctions against the HRD involved to preserve recruitment integrity.

Previously, the Ministry of Manpower hosted a job fair in Jakarta on May 22-23, 2025, open to all job seekers with official registration via the Karirhub platform. Meanwhile, Tangerang Regency successfully organized Naker Fest 2025, featuring dozens of companies and thousands of vacancies to reduce unemployment.

The Deputy Minister reminded all parties to maintain public trust in job fairs as official job search platforms. He hopes this viral incident becomes an important lesson to uphold transparency and professionalism in recruitment processes.
